The early bird catches the worm. Or when bird finding, the early riser finds the birds. It’s not always the case by any means. But on some mornings the weather, scenery and atmosphere are more than enough to compensate for the rude awakening by an alarm. This morning was one of those occasions, and I enjoyed trying to take some atmospheric photographs of birds backlit by the rising sun.
I did find a single Bewick’s swan on the water at Grove, before it left its overnight roost in the company of mute swans. A great white egret came in from its roost to feed for 15 or so minutes and then flew off. Very quickly almost all the birds that had roosted had departed for their daytime activities. Two ladies that arrived to enjoy the sunrise left to continue their walk, and after an hour I needed to leave for work.
